¿Do we think music or music think us?

TALLER_ABIERTO 2.9 Is an open_environment_system_source for experimentation and experiencing compositional processes. I created it in CDMX in 2017- 2018 as a

re-thinking_re-resourcing_re-considerating_re-educating_re-formating_re-decodifying the ¨musical being¨ in us, using our own self, as the ideal ¨field medium¨, that has become  the essential material for a unique approach for sound oriented composition towards a New Onticism.

The workshop is also an  open researching and self inquiring methodology, build mainly from the stand point of ourselves: We Are The Musical Score. And it has been my own researching, analysis and reflective laboratory, that works as a sound_percussive phenomenology and leads into a complex thinking_questioning bucle, about our positioning and presence towards creative music as a tool-material towards an  idea of a new onticism. The basic platform for development, it involves working into our_sound_self_present_imaginary_ontic_being. 

We work from the nature of nature, from the core of what and where musical ideas as Ideas comes from to Homo_Sapiens,  and from this point onward, from a liberating demarcation of denominations, style concepts, prefixed determinist aesthetics and their models built and evolved in History.

It is a state of the art working_space_environment_field; which means, a call for a renewal cultural paradigms and constraints of the psyche, archetypes, reminiscences and traces from the past into the present future features of  social behavior, thought and autonomy, self knowledge and understanding; and obviously, from what we Sapiens, has become, as an understanding of art creatures and our historically  inherited Art and Music making practices.



The compositional genesis process evolves from an inner pure place within us, which is a philosophic vision of the music before music. 


The program was firstly conceived and worked as a fertile environment for creative  explorative practice for the awakening of what I call the percussive state of being; that is,an invisible intuitive inhabitant in the doing/making of music as a being within us; in fact, it is Us.


It is not a searching nor seeking to provide a technical tool for composition, but introducing a reflective positive/negative (gravity_hemispheric_polar) implications inherent to the creative embodiment self process, that conforms an open ended infinite compositional thinking mindset to reinforce the being of the musical being in a continuum sort of workout dimension space-time, and is also a decoding and considering a deep strong reconfiguration of our mindset and self performing habits, into our own lives, and individual practices. 


The whole, as a system, is not a completed nor finished system, since it is an embodiment of my own creative_human practice, at all levels. As a Program for my pedagogic practice and teaching, it is aimed at musicians and performing artists  interested in auditive thinking, percussivness, audiovision, composition and improvisation, intuitive thinking, and even, can be redirected into a really deep meditation practice.

The whole methodology is open in its own nature, and as a Program, is grounded in the being of musical self, as the system of system, focusing on phenomenological matters, of materiality of order and organization,  change, movement and transformation.


The Program is open to anyone (non artist included!) who are interested in the compositional processes of the body-mind experience as sound beings, evoking within ourselves, experiences and awareness of self.

¨I¨ is the composition resulting from self questioning, sensory experiencing of self state, self awareness, perception and consciousness of the inner and outer environment. It is the complex compound open answering to those inner questions resulting from a working progress process integrated by philosophical ideas, aesthetic researching and study within the classical and contemporary musical tradition, experimental music orientation, Creative Music and Music Improvisation.

The working process with Fabian Rangel, violinist music student at ESM in Mexico City, expands beyond the complex world of music itself from the academical stand point of view. 

To begin with the creative workshop started from the inner impulse as a spring of generative elements nurturing the whole process. The revealed implications involved in the process brought to life complex personality problems to be resolved through a sort of inner treatment in itself. 

So ¨I¨ has been composed departing from the idea of percussiveness in sound and its natural properties in the body. As music, it has been conceived like a plasma graphic score as a self container of textural elements, that evolves into modules of mixed material  of traditional music notation subjects. Improvisation plays a basic role as a tool for interlacing the 4 parts of the whole work.

The work is well organized  and supported by a symbol codification for the conceptual and performance of the materials. And it offers the possibility to be performed as a violin and drum set duo or as a large string and percussion ensemble.
